A while ago I was asked to work on a small picture book, called "Do you see me?"
The book is about how everything in the world is connected and if we pay attention to the little details, we may be surprised and delighted by what is revealed. We all have memories of being children and being fascinated by tiny little worlds in nature that become harder and harder to see the older we get. My client was inspired by her young daughter's delight and love for the things found in their garden. She wanted to create something that would show how the beautiful little tableaus her daughter loves were connected to something bigger, grand, awe-inspiring and beautiful.
When I was briefed on this project, I knew very well it was meant for me - After all, it is the world I remember so dearly. Being a little girl, and spending days collecting snails, spying on birds from under the trees, raising black swallowtail caterpillars from the wild fennel my father grew. And then watching the caterpillars grow into beautiful butterflies, and letting them free. It's a memory I will cherish forever.
Below I added a few previews of some of the illustrations from the pages of the book. (click on the image to view full scale). Enjoy!
